John Young has dedicated his career to providing advisory and interim management services to under-performing and distressed companies.
Mr. Young manages the Energy Advisory Services practice of Conway MacKenzie and is a member of the firm’s Board of Directors. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Young served as a Principal in the Interim Management and Corporate Restructuring practice of a national restructuring firm. He has provided a full range of crisis management services throughout North America to under-performing companies, including interim management and debtor advisory; secured lender advisory; litigation support; and debt restructuring and refinancing.
Mr. Young’s recent casework includes serving as Chief Restructuring Officer to Marcus Oil in connection with its Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Mr. Young recently served as financial advisor in connection with a publically traded E&P company with assets including a significant acreage concession in Nicaragua and financial advisor to the senior secured lender to Bigler LP, a diversified petrochemical, storage and terminals, and specialty oils and chemicals trading company in bankruptcy. In addition, Mr. Young also provided financial advisory services to the senior lender to TriDimension Energy and is currently serving as financial advisor to the Unsecured Creditors Committees for Lack’s Furniture Stores, Inc. and ISC Building Materials, Inc. His experience with bankruptcy situations includes roles in several complex matters including Pacific Lumber & Scotia Pacific, WorldCom and Winn-Dixie Stores. Mr. Young’s other experience includes Lone Star Funds, a multi-billion dollar equity fund and KPMG Peat Marwick LLP.
Mr. Young earned a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Baylor University. His credentials include:
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA, Texas),
• Certified Turnaround Professional (CTP),
• Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor (CIRA), and is
• Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) by the AICPA.
Mr. Young currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Houston Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association.
